My Journey Across New Zealand

Dear friend,

It has been really great voyaging across New Zealand in a waka.  The waka is very different to a electric boat. These people on the waka here with me welcomed m with open arms. It is really great to be travelling round New Zealand.

The sad thing is that your not here with me.

See you soon.

Guy Fawkes πŸŽ†πŸŽ‰

On the 5th of November most people celebrate Guy Fawkes day. On this people buy fireworks to light up with a lighter and watch the cool looking colours explode into the sky.  It is important to remember about Firework Safety:

1. Make sure children are supervised while holding a firework,

2. Always have a bucket of water near or next to you,

3. Never try to re-light a firework,

4. Make sure the fireworks are legal before buying them at the store.

Poem about the explosion that happened:

Remember Remember the fifth of November Gunpowder, treason plot we see no reason why gun powder treason should ever be forgot.

Pumphouse Theatre

On the second to last day of term 3, 50 children from Ruapotaka School were chosen  to watch the Pumphouse Theatre play. It was called Mrs. Wishy Washy. The play is based on the Mrs. Wishy Washy and The Big Farm Fair book.

The characters were Mr and Mrs Wishy Washy, Cow, Pig and Duck.
All characters were very fascinating and delightful. My favourite character was pig because of singing. The play was very enjoyable and satisfying.

Colour Changing

How do colours change?

Colours change by combining different colours together and using a spinning technique.

When blue and red are spun together on a spinning wheel they produce the colour purple.

When the colours green and blue are spun together they produce the colour turquoise.

These colours are produced depending on the speed of the spinning wheel. If the wheel goes slow you will not be able to see the colours change but if it goes fast you will be able to see the changing colours.

The Cultural Event 🌴🏝

Today at approximately 11:30 there was a very special assembly where every class did a performance about Tonga and Samoa. Each class performed different things in front of the whole school. The one I mostly enjoyed was Room 10's performance because they were singing with enthusiasm.

Great job to all classes, you did a really wonderful job.

✏Graphics ✏

Today at Technicraft the year 7/8s were arranged into different classes. Year 7s went to Mr Penida who does Graphics but sadly Mr Penida wasn't there. We had a different teacher instead who's name was Mr Stagg and he taught us year 7s how to write and draw our names in different shapes and types.

Technicraft was exciting but complicated at the same time because I didn't really know what to do during Graphics but then everyone helped me do what I was supposed to do.

Orienteering

Today at approximately 11:50 am room 12 did an orienteering. When we first started orienteering we were all given different maps with different courses on them.

When I started I was confused because at first I didn't know how to read the map but later through the quest the map was actually getting easier to read. While trying to find the letters on the map it was tiring and exhausting at the same time.

The weather was really cold and windy at first but after running around it started getting warm.

At the end of the session it was still a bit chilly but at the same time it was exhausting.

Chicken Curry On Rice

On Wednesday at Tech we made chicken curry on rice.

First we had to get all of our ingredients ready.

The ingredients were tomato paste, black pepper, brown sugar, herbs and spices. After we had all of our ingredients we had to put it into a frying pan and stir them around.

Before we did that we had to put the chicken in the pot with water inside then when it was cooked we had to put the chicken into the pan.

With the chicken was in the pan we then had to put it onto the stove and stir it well. When it was finished we had to dish it on the plate nicely and carefully. After that we got to eat it but I saved mine for when I got to school.

★ Learning About Matariki ★

On the 13th of June every Maori in the senior block went to Te Oro to learn lots of things about Matariki. We all learnt how to find Matariki in the sky and we also learnt that the Southern Cross never rises and it never sets.

People think of the group of stars as a mother and her daughters. The mothers' name is Matariki
and the daughters' names are Tupu-a-nuku,

Tupu-a-rangi, Waiti, Waita, Waipungarangi and Ururangi.

Instructions on how to find Matariki for yourself.

All you need to do is firstly wake up before 6 o'clock and then at 6 o'clock go outside and look for the Southern Cross and if you've find it try and find Matariki but remember to use the Southern Cross to help.

Maybe you can try and see the star cluster in the sky yourself.

Victory At Last ⚽⚽

Yesterday was the soccer interschool competition and it was located at the Point England Reserve. The whole soccer team left at approximately
9:20 am. We went up against a lot of  schools. The first school the year 7/8s played against was Glen Taylor school but I was a afraid because it was the first game for the day. Just after the game ended the year 5/6s had their game against a school named Saint Patricks. Both teams won their first game.

The year 7/8s won all their games but sadly they lost one. The last school we went up against was Stonefields and unfortunately most of their team were injured. Both schools tied so we came equal first. Victory was ours at last.  πŸ…πŸ…

Term 2 begins

Today on the 1st of May I woke up thrilled and delighted to see my teacher Mrs Golder and learn new things with Room 11 and Mr Reid. Today it was nice to see everyone happy and smiling. When I went into class I was so happy to see all my friends.

Today was the first whole school assembly and it was exciting because some people from classes get caught being good book and they take it home and read it.

πŸ”§Last Day Of Tech πŸ”§

Today on the 5th of April was the last day of Technicraft because next week there is a display at Te Oro and most of the people are going.

Today in Mr Grundy's class I was making my toy. My toy is a tractor. I am almost done with my tractor. I only started a few weeks ago and I am very proud of myself.

After the lesson we all have to sit on the benches and only four of the year seven's swept the floor, because there were only four brooms.

The photo above is showing us sitting on the bench and people sweeping the floor.

Robert Rakete

Today Robert Rakete came to the school and he talked about his favourite book. He likes to read Astrix. The book Astrix is about a man who has a moustache and when he drinks a potion he gets super strength.  He can beat up the baddies which are Romans. Robert told us that he is one of the Wiggles. He said that he is the Brown Wiggle. He is also on MAI FM but then moved to BREEZE.

Robert Rakete is very inspiring and he has inspired me to be a performer and become an actress.

Technicraft

Today at Technicraft I was in Mr Grundy's class which is wood work.  The whole yr 7s were learning how to make toys (eg Tractor). We had to first learn how to use the tools that we needed to use to make the toy or something else. My idea was a tractor.

The 3rd Syndicate Assembly

Yesterday on the 6th of March was a syndicate assembly hosted by Room 10. The class organised a game called pictionary. Two people from each class had to go up and play the pictionary game. One person had to draw and one person had to try and guess the picture that was drawn on the whiteboard.

Room 9 - Alamoni and Shaniqua
Room 10 - Konzay and Leeanah
Room 11 - Min Zin and Meafou
Room 12 - Saluselo and Mika

There was a very hard picture that no one knew what it was but Meafou called out the right answer which was best friend. Room 11 won. Hard luck  to the other rooms who tried their best.

Where's Mrs Golder?

On Monday Mrs Golder didn't come to school because she was sick, so she had to stay home and rest. A reliever teacher named Miss Morris filled in for her.
The next day Mrs Golder came back to school but she was still a bit sick. Saluselo went and told Mrs Vickers that Mrs Golder was coughing.
Mrs Golder was showing Room 12 her recovery and how she would be better by Thursday. She was a little bit better by Thursday.

Tuesday 28 February 2017

The 2nd Syndicate Assembly

Room 10 - Tyra and Liza - How Far I'll Go- Moana
Room 11 - Bella and Tupouseini - How Far I'll Go - Moana

Vaimoana won because the judges chose her for her beautiful voice. Hard luck to Rooms 9, 10 and 11.

First Syndicate Assembly

Last week on Tuesday Room 12 hosted the first assembly of 2017.
There was a dance battle between 2 to 3 people from each class.
Room 12 - Mika, Saluselo and Lupe
Room 11 - Meafou and Teremoana
Room 10 - Dominic and Peni
Room 9 -  Maniarose and Diego

It was really funny when the children from each room started dancing. All of the children tried very hard but unfortunately on one class could win. Room 10 won because the whole senior block had a vote and most of the children chose this class.

We sang 2 songs and the songs were called 'Smile And Be Happy' and 'Lean On Me'. 'Smile And Be Happy' is about living life to the fullest. 'Lean On Me' is about if you need a friend you can 'Lean On Me'.
